Job Description:

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Capacity Manager to join our Agile Software Development team. This role involves analyzing, forecasting, and managing the resource capacity of our Scrum teams to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and delivery. The Capacity Manager will work closely with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Engineering Managers to balance workloads, optimize team utilization, and ensure timely delivery of product roadmaps.

Key Responsibilities:

Capacity Planning & Resource Management:

  • Monitor and manage team capacity across multiple Scrum teams, ensuring alignment with sprint and release goals.
  • Analyze historical team velocity, backlog estimates, and upcoming workload to forecast resource needs.
  • Collaborate with Scrum Masters and Engineering Leaders to prioritize work based on available capacity.
  • Identify and address resource bottlenecks, skills gaps, and workload imbalances.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

Track team utilization, productivity, and efficiency metrics.

  • Provide data-driven insights to stakeholders for decision-making on hiring, workload adjustments, and sprint planning.
  • Develop dashboards and reports for capacity planning, utilization trends, and forecasting.

Collaboration & Process Improvement:

  • Work closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Development Leads to refine capacity planning processes.
  • Participate in Sprint Planning, Reviews, and Retrospectives to align capacity with commitments.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance team efficiency and avoid burnout.
  • Support budgeting and workforce planning for engineering resources.

Risk Management & Escalation:

  • Identify risks related to over- or under-utilization of resources and escalate issues proactively.
  • Develop contingency plans to handle unexpected demand spikes or team changes.

Required Qualifications:

  • [3+] years of experience in capacity management, workforce planning, or Agile resource management within a software development environment.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, Scrum frameworks, and SDLC.
  • Experience with Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally).
  • Proficiency in data analysis, forecasting, and capacity modeling.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced, Agile setting.
  • Familiarity with engineering skill sets, team structures, and workload distribution.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in Scrum (CSM, PSM) or Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with workforce analytics and capacity planning tools.
  • Background in software engineering or technical project management is a plus.
